About The Artist

Stitch 2023, Walking for Allegra Pronesti at Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia, PA

Fussy Louise is Sally Louise Polk (she/they) a queer fat artist living on Lene Lenape Land, also known as Philadelphia, by way of Tennessee and Ohio. My main mediums are metal, fiber and resin. I come from a family of artists, musicians and tinkerers. My mother is an artist and my father is an engineer so I grew up beading, sewing, fixing, mending. Both of them are musicians, so I've grown up doing that too. Always singing.

I've spent the past 15 years organizing and performing in DIY scenes in places like California, Tennessee, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Vermont. I perform as Thunder Thighs, a solo act that often lends itself to other collaborations and performance art endeavors. I have been selling jewelry off and on for years but have only recently began to chase my dream of living my life as an time artist. I am very invested in a sense of community and building creative spaces that are accessible. Most recently, I have been working with my dear friend Robyn Dombey to offer a monthly sewing group for fat folks called Sew Inclusive. In Sew Inclusive, we offer fat and plus sized folks only sewing space with all the resources of a fashion school. During our time together in each workshop-- we teach you how to sew, alter and fit your wardrobe. Sew Inclusive's aim is to combat fatphobia by giving people the tools they need to create the quality clothing they deserve.
